Intergenerational Relationship Counseling

Driven by curiosity and built on purpose, this is where bold thinking meets thoughtful execution. Let’s create something meaningful together.

Some of the hardest relationships to navigate are the ones you never chose, and can't walk away from.

Family relationships are complicated in a way that's hard to explain to someone who hasn't lived it. There's history there. Old dynamics that never fully resolved. Things that were never said, or things that were said and can't be unsaid. And underneath all of it, usually, a genuine desire to have something better.

This page is for anyone who knows that feeling.

This isn't traditional Family Therapy

When most people hear "family therapy," they picture parents and young children working through behavioral issues or communication problems at home. That's not what this is.

Intergenerational relationship counseling focuses on the adult relationships within families, and sometimes close friendships that function like family. The kind of relationships that have years, sometimes decades, of history behind them. The ones that carry the most weight and get the least support.

This work is for people who want to repair, strengthen, or simply understand a relationship that matters to them, even when it's hard.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You love your parent but every conversation seems to end the same way

  • You and your adult child have grown distant and you don't know how to bridge it

  • There's tension with a sibling that's been there so long it just feels normal

  • In-law dynamics are quietly creating stress in your marriage

  • A friendship that felt like family has fractured and you're not sure how to move forward

  • You want a better relationship with someone but don't know how to start that conversation

  • Old patterns keep repeating no matter how hard you try to do things differently

You don't have to have a dramatic falling out for this work to be relevant. Sometimes it's just a slow drift, and you want to find your way back.

What we work on together

Every relationship is different, but some common themes include:

Parent & Adult Child Relationships

Whether you're a parent trying to reconnect or an adult child trying to navigate a complicated dynamic, this is a space to work through it honestly, without blame and without taking sides.

The girl has long dark hair, is wearing a beige and white striped dress with a beige jacket, and has small yellow star stickers on her face. She is holding the boy's arm and has colorful bracelets on her wrist.

Siblings

Sibling relationships carry some of the longest running patterns of any relationship we have. Old roles, old wounds, and old dynamics have a way of resurfacing.

We work to understand them and build something different.

In-Laws & Extended Family

These relationships don't come with a roadmap.

We figure out how to navigate them in a way that works for everyone involved, including your marriage.

Close Friendships

Sometimes the people who feel most like family aren't family at all.

When those relationships hit a wall, they deserve the same care and attention.

This work can happen in a few different ways, sometimes with all parties in the room together, sometimes individually, and sometimes a combination of both. We'll figure out what makes the most sense for your situation.

What stays consistent is the approach. I'll create a space where everyone feels heard, not defended or attacked, but genuinely understood. Using IFS and attachment theory as a foundation, we'll look at the patterns that have developed over time, where they came from, and what it would take to shift them.

I'll be warm, I'll be honest, and I won't take sides. But I will name what I'm seeing, because that's usually what moves things forward.

How we work together

This might be a good fit if you're:

  • An adult navigating a painful or complicated family relationship

  • A parent wanting a better connection with your adult child

  • Someone carrying tension with a sibling, in-law, or close friend that's gone on too long

  • Willing to look at your own part in the dynamic, not just the other person's

  • Looking for a therapist in Nashville who can hold space for more than one perspective at once

Some relationships are worth fighting for.

Not every relationship can be fully repaired. But most can be better than they are right now, with the right support and a willingness to look honestly at what's gotten in the way.

If there's a relationship in your life you're ready to stop writing off or tiptoeing around, I'd love to help.
